Barchester seals deal for 70-bed care home in Eastbourne

Barchester Healthcare has acquired a 1.5 acre site in Eastbourne to develop a 70-bed care home.

The new 44,000 sq. ft. building designed by TDC Architects has already been granted planning permission.

Tony Cole, managing director of Grafton Land and Property, who sold the site, said: “This deal forms part of a nationwide programme delivering opportunities for modern new build nursing homes – there will be twice as many people aged 85 and over in England in 2030 than there were in 2010.

“It’s vital that homes such as this with large en-suite bedrooms, hairdressers, cinema, laundry and self-contained areas with their own dining rooms and lounges are developed in order to provide excellent care in attractive settings.”

Thomas Pearson, real estate partner at JMW Solicitors, who advised on the deal, said: “We’re very pleased to have been able to support Grafton on this latest deal – the shortage of care home places in the UK continues to grow so it’s great to be able to help bring suitable sites forward.

“Barchester has an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality, attractive care homes and I’ve no doubt this newest addition to its portfolio will be no exception.”

Grafton Land & Property is a specialist development company that secures land nationwide with the potential for care use, designing and securing planning approval for elderly care residential and nursing facilities.
